Challenges, which the companies in the forging industry take on even in trying times by introducing innovations, dedicating themselves to research activities and pushing efforts to promote next-generation talent. Companies of the forging industry in Germany are medium-sized in character and the majority of these are managed as family companies. Their business structures help to shoulder the current challenges the companies are faced with in a harsh economic environment.
Forged system components consisting of optimally designed constructional elements satisfy the international demands of the market in the lightweight construction industry. By introducing components that are increasingly more lightweight, the companies are achieving the required objective for reducing CO2 levels. The question of which raw material should be used plays a key role in the process. This is why research and development of raw materials used in hot and cold forging is an area that is being strongly pushed. Newly developed raw materials made of lighter weight steel and aluminium are found in all applications of forging. Automotive construction, wind power, aerospace and medical engineering.
As a result of cutting-edge research projects consistently being carried out in cooperation between the industry and research institutes - often organized by the association - the industry is successfully handling the demand for energy and material efficient forgings. The forging industry in Germany is a technology leader and, after China, the largest producer of hot and cold forged components.
The industry impressively demonstrated its market and technology leadership in difficult times with its largest trade fair presence to date that included 28 exhibiting companies from the industry on a space 750 square metres in size in Hall 4, Booth E42. As such, the German solid forming sector represents the largest industry booth at Industrial Supply, a leading industrial trade fair.
