This year's SuperConductingCity group pavilion will put the spotlight squarely on superconductivity as one of the key technologies of the future. Especially when it comes to power generation and distribution in the energy sector, superconducting lines, as compared with conventional transmission technology, can achieve significantly higher levels of efficiency. After all, they can cater for 100 times the electricity volume of traditional copper lines – at practically zero resistance. Superconductivity is also seen as the key to achieving major efficiency gains in a diverse range of other applications, such as ship engines, wind turbines, current limiters and metalworking machines.
