Demand for energy is rising, particularly in the emerging and developing economies. According to the International Energy Agency, to meet worldwide energy demand by 2030 an additional 3,500 GW of power plant capacity must be achieved. Reaching this goal while also meeting climate protection imperatives will necessitate innovative technologies for conventional power plants. Many experts believe that fossil energy sources will cover the greatest share of this increased production.
Thanks to modern power plant technologies, today's coal power plants operate at an efficiency of around 45 percent and at live steam temperatures of 600 degrees Celsius. And a newer generation is already being developed: temperatures of 700 degrees and pressures up to 352 bar should raise power plant efficiency to over 50 percent, as well as reduce CO2 emissions.
Modern energy generation technologies for generating power and heat, both individual components and comprehensive solutions, are on display in the Power Plant Pavilion in Hall 27. The joint stand at Energy is organized by the EnergieRegion.NRW, FDBR, Rhein Ruhr Power and WVIS associations.
