All you need to generate electricity is a river and a turbine. Smart Hydro Power GmbH is exhibiting its kinetic hydropower plant at HANNOVER MESSE 2012, a solution that helps people in remote regions in developing countries draw power without the need for long cables.
The centerpiece of the system is a turbine (1.5m x 2m x 2m) that generates electricity while floating on the surface of a river. An anchor system is used to attach it to the riverbed. The flow of water powers a rotor. Cables are used to transmit the energy first to an inverter and then on to the consumers. When running at peak performance, this system can supply an entire village with electricity.
