The problem of too many males...

The African tilapia fish is a popular delicacy and source of protein. Naturally, the logical thing to do is establish fish production in aquaculture systems. The problem is that, although the males produce a higher yield and mature twice as quickly as the females, they are also very territorial and aggressive. The solution is the Tilapia Breeding Center for hormone free production. The University of Göttingen will be presenting the center at HANNOVER MESSE 2012.

The reproduction unit respects the natural needs of the fish. The males are kept in closed single compartments with adjustable bars. In order to mate, the females swim through the bars to the males before returning to their own area to incubate the eggs.
