It's not just cars that need regular oil changes. Lubrication is extremely important in large industrial facilities, too, and any failure caused by old or contaminated oil has serious consequences. Saarland University will be presenting a precise method of lubricant analysis at HANNOVER MESSE 2012.
The Fluidsens project provides optical monitoring of the lubricant status. Photodiodes are used to identify particles in the oil, such as metal chips. In contrast to other monitoring methods, this system does not incorrectly identify air bubbles as contaminants. This ensures the oil can be used for a longer period and thus improves overall cost efficiency.
