"Bionics" is a word coined to join biology and technical design. The resulting science is inspired by nature and turns its knowledge into innovative technology. For eleven years - and with as much relevance as ever - researchers have been presenting their market-ready inventions from this field at HANNOVER MESSE. The central platform for bionic applications at the Research & Technology trade fair is the BIONIK theme stand.
Among the broad spectrum of key technologies presented at this joint stand are product applications from robotics, communication and microsystem engineering, optical technologies and functional surfaces. Visitors can see how self-repairing plastics "heal" tears, or how "sharkskin paint" protects boats from plants and mussels attaching, which reduces fuel consumption.
The BIONIK theme stand is organized by TU Berlin ScienceMarketing (TUBS) and supported by Bionik Kompetenznetz (BIOKON). This public-interest research association includes more than 70 universities, research institutes, companies and individuals. "The bionics topic has arrived in industry and on the market," said BIOKON CEO Dr. Rainer Erb, "and HANNOVER MESSE is an important showcase for bionic innovations every year."
