Cheese, bread and red wine - and charge the electric car too, please!

EWE is continuing to expand its charging infrastructure for electric vehicles - the energy company is at HANNOVER MESSE 2017 to unveil a partnership with the EDEKA Group to build charging stations at 60 supermarket sites in north-western Germany this year.

The first charging station has already been put into operation at EDEKA Center Bruns in Friedrichsfehn by authorized EWE representative Rainer Raddau, Wiebke Brockmeyer from the EWE mobility competence center, EDEKA sales manager Marie Ubben, and Andreas Blum, head of EDEKA Energy Management. "We already operate 120 charging stations in our core area and we're aiming to double this to 240 by the end of the year," explains Raddau. "By installing electric charging stations in parking lots at EDEKA supermarkets, we're covering not just very prominent locations but also very useful ones. This gives customers the ideal combination of shopping and vehicle charging options."

Although over 80 percent of charging occurs in the workplace or at home, EWE is sending out an important signal with this public charging infrastructure. It is making people feel more reassured about the range of environmentally friendly electric vehicles and thus increasing their popularity. Sustainability is just as important to EDEKA as it is to EWE. "We don't just love food - we're also committed to environmentally friendly products and conserving resources," says Ubben. "The EWE charging stations use renewable electricity and thus play a big part in this. It also means we can offer our customers a fantastic service."

As head of the EWE mobility competence center, Dr. Jonas Lohmann views e-mobility in the wider context and is therefore increasingly focusing on domestic charging points: "Our wall-mounted charging stations make it possible to charge electric vehicles quickly at home too, while our EQOO home storage system offers homeowners the option of storing solar energy - renewable electricity - and then using this to charge their vehicles."
