At the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi, BYD announced its agricultural center specifically intended for the Middle East . The world’s leading producer of smartphone batteries wants to make it possible for regions with very high outdoor temperatures to produce foods that they have had to import until now.

Special seeds that can withstand high temperatures and require very little water will be used at the New Age Agricultural Centre. Highly efficient irrigation systems will be constructed to provide the soil with water sourced from desalination plants. The design calls for photovoltaic systems to provide the necessary power; these systems have BYD’s in-house battery system built into them. The company also intends to supply the systems to other regions of the world in the future; in Abu Dhabi, it established a “Memorandum of Understanding” with Power China Guizhou Engineering Co. Ltd. for this purpose.
