Gigabit industrial ethernet is real-time automation

Not so long ago people were still saying: 10/100 Ethernet is suitable for most applications outside of high-speed motion control – that’s enough. But that was before Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things.

Now they are working feverishly on gigabit standards for the IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things). The focus here lies on the need to get bandwidth, cyber security and speed under one roof. CC-Link IE (Industrial Ethernet) is the world’s first and only open Gigabit Ethernet automation standard. As such, it offers a tenfold increase in performance in comparison with similar protocols (Profinet, Modbus, etc.). CC-Link IE also has the highest available bandwidth of 1 Gbit/s, delivering the performance that Industry 4.0 needs for motion control and for networking highly data-intensive processes.

CC-Link IE is based on the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard and enables ring, line and star topologies. They can also be combined into systems that offer maximum application flexibility. The ring and line connections are particularly interesting, as they allow easy daisy-chaining of devices, which eliminates the additional cost and complexity of network switches.
