Rometty announced IBM’s recruitment at the Tech-for-Good summit hosted by the French president. In the words of the IBM CEO, France is to become an excellence center for the aforementioned technologies. Of the 1,800 new jobs, at least 400 are to be in the field of research.

The developers of IBM recently had people sit up and take notice when they presented a microcomputer to the public with memory, I/O controller, and power supply, which is barely larger than a grain of salt . In the future, such computers will serve as crypto-anchors to control the flow of goods and protect consumers from counterfeit products. A flagship for the company’s IoT expertise will also be the digitization of goods handling at the Port of Rotterdam , of which IBM will create a digital twin to help operators streamline operations.

While IBM is strengthening these business segments, the company making cuts elsewhere. For example, IBM Germany intends to sell parts of its service division , and towards the end of 2017, British IBM employees learned of a planned job cutback at IBM Global Business Services .
