By partnering with Microsoft, especially through the Azure services, Chevron wants to develop into a digital company, in particular one with high-performance computing and IoT services. In doing so, the partnership seeks to connect operational processes through analytics and automation. Microsoft develops products that solve Chevron’s challenges and help the company convert their growing quantity of data into insights and usable information. For Chevron, IT will thus change from a supporting factor to a central operational resource.

This is not the first such case. Back in August 2017 there was news of the strategic alliance between Halliburton and Microsoft , which aims to drive forward the digital transformation of the oil and gas industry. This partnership combines the knowledge of a leading oil and gas exploration and production company with the cloud and IT services; through it, Halliburton seeks to make IoT data available in real time.

Microsoft’s partnerships with Halliburton and Chevron are indicators of the rigorous execution of the Microsoft strategy to penetrate and network deep into industries.
