Description

Corrosion of steel in concrete is a common problem of reinforced concrete structures, which can cause extensive damage. To locate corroded and corroding rebars in reinforced concrete and to determine the corrosion tendency of reinforced concrete various electrochemical evaluation technologies with varying information value are available. A new method for semi-destructive corrosion evaluation and the assessment of rebar passivation is introduced. The new method developed and patented by FH Erfurt of active electrochemical, ionization and passivation (AECIP) testing uses a minimally invasive active electrochemical approach to characterize the passivated layer of steel reinforcement in interaction with concrete mixes, aggregates, recipes, post treatment and rehabilitation measures of structures and structural elements made of steel reinforced concrete.
