Description

There are many standards that target future industrial networking. The most significant are OPC UA and the OMG Data Distribution Service™ (DDS) standard. These technologies must combine to address the future needs of Industrie 4.0. Intelligent manufacturing systems need both device integration and autonomous operation.

Most importantly, OPC UA and DDS differ in the integration approach for the final system design. OPC UA targets final device-centric integration by plant engineers. By contrast, DDS targets final data-centric software integration by software teams. 

As intelligent software gains importance in Industrie 4.0 manufacturing systems, DDS and OPC UA can provide device integration with complex autonomous software systems. This talk will review the programming techniques, the standards and their differences. It will overview the IIC architecture for combining standards. Finally, it will present a vision of how the standards can work together for the future of manufacturing.
