Automation of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) workflows is key in order to increase the efficiency of simulation-driven design and make this technology more accessible to SMEs. In this talk, it is outlined how cognitive approaches based on novel machine learning algorithms can automate routine manual tasks within various steps of the CAE workflow. Applications include geometry preparation, mesh generation or post processing. It is also shown how open source strategies can help to modularize CAE components such that even complex workflows can be built quickly in a Lego-like fashion. It is finally discussed how end-to-end CAE automation can pave the way for easy-to-use, product-specific simulations apps.
