Description

With the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), which links physical and virtual objects through the Internet, more and more industrial assets collect, process and transmit sensor and actuator signals. IoT use cases, such as predictive maintenance, are projected to generate savings of $630B by 2025. Therefore, within the sealing industry, remote diagnostics, the prediction of seal health and the prevention of seal failures through IoT, has been topic for years. However, embedding a sensor in a dynamic sealing environment, such as a rod sealing solution, poses a challenge.

We present an alternative approach to using IoT for sealing technologies: Cognitive Sealing. Cognitive Sealing applies artificial intelligence to sensor and actuator signals captured within the sealing system’s environment as opposed to directly embedded sensors within the seal.
