Description

Regulations in the field of energy efficiency and high costs of electric energy require an increasing of electric motor efficiency. More than 95% of all electric motors used in pump units are induction motors (IM). IMs have low efficiency and their energy-efficiency class is not higher than IE3.

Synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) has simple design without magnets and can meet the highest IE5 efficiency class. And, SynRM costs less than of IM. This presentation describes the method allowing calculation of energy efficiency of pump units with IM or SynRM at real load profile on the basis of limited experimental data (datasheet). For doing this the only need is a statistical data on the load profile and datasheets of the hydraulic system, the motor and the frequency converter. Application of the method is demonstrated by the example of two calculations of the pump units with different rated power. The calculations show that SynRM significantly saves electric energy compared to IM.
