Crowd manufacturing is based on connecting physical assets with digital services among different companies. Goal is to trade the right-to-use of manufacturing resources in a dynamic and highly integrated manner companies. Temporarily, one company (A) acquires the right-to-use of another's company (B) manufacturing resources (machines, material, man). For a dedicated time, A connects its virtual Production Management System (MES) dynamically and securely with the manufacturing resources of B, manages B's resources and receives all accruing data.
With many of such connections happening in parallel among various companies, an Industrial Sharing Economy can be established. Overall manufacturing resources availability and utilization will improve significantly, while protecting individual manufacturing know-how.
Hitachi in collaboration with Fraunhofer IPA (Germany) and MTA SZTAKI (Hungary) developed and evaluated required technologies and implemented three use cases.
