Industry 4.0 - the digitising of the factory and supply chain and the introduction of intelligent automation - is set to be the biggest change in manufacturing industry since the introduction of the first robots. The Industrial Data Space addresses these challenges and fills a gap in the market. It provides a secure and trustworthy infrastructure for the data owners (providing data and defining terms of use and fees), the data users (using data for internal purposes and satisfying terms of use), data brokers (bringing together owner and user and undertaking monitoring and clearing tasks) and certification authorities (certifying participants to standards, terms of use and security). The Industrial Data Space enables the logistics chain of the future by linking data. The use of such links by major companies in case studies and early trials have demonstrated that Industrial data Space can support Industrial Automation via smart data and smart services.
