Within the IGF funded research project FAUSST a transition element between steel and fibre reinforced materials is being developed. Steel and glass fibres are knitted to a hybrid fabric, which then can be welded on one side to a steel structure and the other side can be integrated into a fibre reinforced structure. The main aim of the structure is developing a standardised joint in order to advance the usage of this material class within shipbuilding.
Within the speech the motivation, the manufacturing and first results of this joining approach are presented.
