The IIC's new Industrial Internet Connectivity Framework (IICF) is the first deep guidance for integrating IIOT systems. It introduces the concept of a Core Connectivity Standard, and details an architecture for interconnecting the IIoT.
The Data Distribution Service (DDS) and OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) are key in the IIC and Industrie 4.0 designs. These technologies are more complementary than competitive.
Projects must understand these options. The guidance, developed jointly by the standards groups, is that DDS is for systems facing a primary software integration challenge, while OPC UA is for simpler software systems facing device interchangeability issues. While this may sound confusing, it is not in practice. The best path is nearly always clear.
This session will overview the IICF, and then analyze the use cases for DDS and OPC UA.
