Description

Not only because of the increasing numbers of reports in the media about security incidents, the topic of industrial security gains more and more attention. For the first time, the novel standard IEC 62443 describes the requirements and regulates the security for industrial automation. In addition, compliance with security requirements becomes an integral part of safety (IEC 61508-1), since without security, safety cannot be guaranteed.

The talk presents an overview of the requirements of the standard IEC 62443 for component suppliers, system integrators and asset owners for their engineering processes and products. Based on a case study, it is explained how the engineering process is enhanced with security activities for compliance with the standard. The threat assessment based on STRIDE is demonstrated and it is explained, how adjusting the used tools to the context of the organization ensures an efficient analysis.
