Within the context of Industry 4.0 sensors, machines and production facilities will be connected to the Internet and therefore must have built-in connectivity interfaces. The various technologies such as DSL/Ethernet, WLAN, Cellular, LoRa and many more are available to use. Nevertheless, every technology has its pros and cons and different impact on the business model in terms of finance, functionality and especially security. The Industrial Internet of Things has totally different requirements from what we know and see in the Smart Home sector, Smart Metering applications and the B2C market.
