The PROFIBUS user organization (PI) is currently working on a security specification for PROFINET. The lecturer himself is the head of the working group for this task and sketches the vision and goals behind the work of the task group. It will be shown why we apparently only talk about security and nothing is done. Without being able to report on the outcome, the talk will convey crucial visions on what PROFINET users may expect from the upcoming specification. How complex will it be to apply the specification? Which challenges will the use be faced with and which issues will be managed automatically? These questions will be discussed as well as the out-of-scope topics: Security requirements which cannot be implemented by PROFINET itself. Those issues will need to be regarded and secured in a holistic concept by device manufacturers, machine manufacturer and operators.
