Description

So far, TÜV’s world of inspecting consists of the following: When a product is put into circulation, a type examination with subsequent periodic technical inspections (PTI) is carried out. The end-consumer may know these e.g. from elevator testing and automobile testing. In a fully networked world, the inspector can check whether the device is functioning properly at all times by using condition monitoring systems.

This results in the following questions: Is the transferred data provided by the device authentic, thus allowing an independent third party to carry out the inspection with reliable results? Can it be ruled out that someone manipulates system data in such a way that the findings of an inspecting company may become false? Through the integration of modern IT security functionalities into the object to be tested, as well as the condition monitoring system, these questions could become irrelevant.
