Description

In order to successfully advance the energy transition holistic concepts are needed. The ice storage system is a regenerative heat source for heat pumps that uses energy from solar radiation, ambient air and geothermal heat. The energy obtained is fed into an underground concrete container filled with water. A heat exchanger system provides the energy for the heat pump. The controlled process of freezing and thawing water gives access to the so-called crystallization energy, optimizing the efficiency of the system. Ice formed in the tank during the heating period is available in summer as a free cooling reservoir. The deployment of an ice storage system doesn't require special permits and is suitable for a wide range of applications. Especially in the context of residential area concepts and local heating, the use of an ice storage as an energy-manager enjoys increasing popularity. Correctly dimensioned the ice storage system stands for relevant CO2 savings and economic efficiency.
