Dimensional inspection is a critical step in product manufacturing processes where very tight tolerance levels are required. New metrology tools such as 3D scanners are becoming a very good alternative to this end, since they can reflect the health condition of a manufacturing process in a very flexible way. In this talk, a practical implementation of these technologies applied to component manufacturing for the automotive sector is shown, as well as their link with emerging tendencies around Industry 4.0
