Located in the south-central part of Foshan, Guangdong Province, Sino-German Industrial Services Zone connects Guangzhou on the east and is adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao to the south. Officially established in July 2012 as one of six major cooperation platforms in Guangdong Province, it is the only all-round cooperation platform between Guangdong Province and Germany. This was outlined in the Joint Statement on Future Two-way Investment signed between China and Germany in August 2012. In April 2014, Sino-German Industrial Services Zone was qualified as one of the first two EU-China cooperative urbanization demonstration zones. Being a functional area, the Services Zone focuses on advanced manufacturing (based on the concept of intelligent manufacturing), modern service industries (exhibitions and conferences), and strategic emerging industries (with biological medicine at the core). In 2016, the Services Zone launched the establishment of Sino-German Industrial City Alliance.
