The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a public corporation upon the laws of Baden-Wuerttemberg. It has the mission of a University as well as the mission of a national research centre of the Helmholtz-Association. At the Institute for Technical Physics (ITEP), High Temperature Superconductors are developed and their AC and DC applications. Another main focus are the components of the applications themselves, fault current limiters, current limiting transformers, power cables, magnets for Fusion, spectroscopy, space and special applications. A further key competence is the investigation of AC losses experimentally and their description with model calculations. ITEP performs the R&D in many international cooperations with industries and academic institutions and offers innovative developments on high temperature superconductors and applications and provides a variety of laboratories for conductor, component and high voltage tests under a variety of boundary conditions.
