Company profile

The Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) is an internationally operating research institute in the fields of photonics and laser technology. The interdisciplinary cooperation between natural scientists and mechanical engineers makes innovative approaches to challenges from the most different industrial sectors possible. The research priorities of the institute are optical components and systems, optical production technologies, and biomedical photonics. Research projects always aim at current and future demands of the economy. For industrial projects, the focus of the work is on direct customer benefits. Besides research, development and consulting, training and further education are the main objectives of the LZH.
As an independent, non-profit research institute, the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) is supported by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Economics, Labour and Transport since its foundation in 1986. 17 spin-off companies have, up to now, emerged from the LZH.

Additive Manufacturing: Magnesiumparts

Laser Additive Manufacturing (LAM) makes it possible to manufacture smallest structures, complex parts or individual implants »out of nothing«. This technique is already state-of-the-art, but special applications, such as parts with a high resolution or the processing of special materials, require special more

Underwater Laser Cutting

Making underwater works on offshore wind farms, bridges or locks fast, efficient and safe - this is the aim of the automated laser cutting underwater. The new process technology is being developed at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH). For conventional separation processes underwater, light arc oxygen more

Smart Parts: Integrated Sensors

With a laser structuring process, scientists of the Laser Micromachining Group at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) have developed a new technique for the manufacturing of integrated sensors. With these sensors, even smallest strains in the parts of a machine tool that are difficult to deform can more

Innovative Lightweight Construction:CFRP

The laser penetration welding process developed by the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) enables the secure joining of thermoplastic, fiber-reinforced materials, such as carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP). Laser processing offers many advantages compared to conventional technologies: The laser enables more
