WORL DEBUT: The planet motor: TU Wien presents innovative electric drive

The electric motor is a tried-and-tested concept. This, however, does not mean that there is no more space for revolutionary improvements. Usually, motor and gearbox are two separate functional units. Researchers at the Vienna University of Technology have now developed a novel motor concept, which enables the integration of these two components. Instead of a single rotor, four mechanically linked rotors are used. Thereby, a so-called “planet motor” comes into existence, which is characterized by its high ... read more

WORLD DEBUT: Hand scanner measures bitumen quality

Hand scanner measures bitumen quality Also in 2017, the TU Wien presents several technological innovations at the Hannover Messe: With a simple hand scanner, the quality of the bitumen, which holds the asphalt together, can be measured directly on-site. Asphalt does not last forever. At some point, it ages and starts to crumble. This has to do with the bitumen, the sticky binding agent, which holds and keeps the rock content in the asphalt. Bitumen is a petroleum product consisting of several organic... read more
