Teaching of physics and astronomy has been conducted at the University of Warsaw ever since it was established in 1816. The Faculty of Physics exists since 1969. The highly skilled teaching and research staff at the Faculty of Physics provides for a high level of instruction. Recently new highly specialized units were added that have, partly thanks to the EU funding, top quality equipment for research in the areas of new materials, new technologies, nanotechnology, new medical techniques, biotechnology and bioengineering.
In addition, much of our research is conducted in collaboration with leading foreign institutions, such as: CERN, in Switzerland; DESY and GSI, in Germany; Oxford and Cambridge in Great Britain; laboratories of the CNRS in France; Fermilab in the USA. Thanks to this collaboration, students are able to take part in some of the most important physical experiments currently conducted all over the world.
