Industry 4.0 combines many disciplines. Under the common thematic umbrella "Digital Transformation" initiatives and projects at the technology and research site Kaiserslautern cooperate with each other, whose activities, with different thematic priorities, also deal with the interdisciplinary challenges of Industry 4.0.
The Mittelstand 4.0-Kompetenzzentrum Kaiserslautern under direction of SmartFactoryKL is a center funded by the BMWi for the transfer of the potentials of applications of Industry 4.0 in the SME sector and in vocational education and training, in order to enable and support medium-sized companies in the digitization and in Industry 4.0.
The Center for Smart Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary association of researchers from five faculties of the University of Kaiserslautern. The focus is interdisciplinary basic research and university education in the field of Smart Systems Engineering, as a key methodology for development, simulation and validation of smart products and smart factories.
The Working Group Industry 4.0 of the Science Alliance Kaiserslautern is a interdisciplinary network of research institutions and companies at the technology and research site Kaiserslautern. Its focus is on applied research in Industry 4.0 with the aim of opening up the potentials of interdisciplinary research and to make these potentials usable in practice.
The Institute of Virtual Product Development (VPE) of the University of Kaiserslautern is involved in all initiatives as a partner and provides them at the Hannover Messe 2016 in Hall 2, Stand B40. The research focus of the Institute of VPE includes work in the areas of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), System Lifecycle Management (SysLM) and Industrial Internet (including Industry 4.0 und Internet of Things and Services).
