3D ULTRASOUND SENSOR
Toposens develops 3D sensors based on ultrasound. The sensor uses the principle of echolocation, just like a bat, and can detect 3D positions of objects and people in real time. Compared to existing alternatives, e.g. 3D cameras and 3D laser systems, the 3D ultrasound sensors has many important advantages: It is small, lightweight and uses very little energy. Further, the sensor is very robust (changing lighting conditions, reflecting surfaces, dirt or dust are no problem) and effectively protects people's privacy, because it does not identify them. The sensor is also less expensive than optical systems, because it does not need any costly components.
APPLICATION AREAS
The 3D ultrasound sensor can be used for various use-cases.
In the field of automotive, the sensor can be used to monitor the near-field environment of the car for autonomous driving and parking applications. It can also be applied in the car interior, to determine the number and position of passengers present.
The sensor can also be used for collision avoidance of mobile robots as well as for further industrial applications.
Another area of application is anonymous people tracking, e.g. for the analysis of customer flows in retail stores, smart home applications, building automation or the surveillance of dangerous areas in industrial environments
