Robotics is one of the key technologies of the near future. Research and education in this field need universal and extensible robots since it is unfeasible to develop new systems for every context from scratch. Our start-up a1robotics offers a flexible robotic system with a modular structure that allows adaptation to a multitude of applications. At Hannovermesse 2016 we present our mobile base a1orb. It offers an omnidirectional drive, high payload (50 kg), and outstanding mechanical flexibility. An on-board x86-computer running the robot operating system ROS offers access to high-level functionality. As an outlook to the upcoming modules of our system we present the prototype of a humanoid torso with two arms attached to our mobile base.
