Product description

Pipeline systems in industrial facilities usually carry large amounts of gases or liquids over long distances. Due to the high flow rates, even the smallest leaks can cause damage to the environment and people resulting in high repair costs. The BAM project "Application of distributed acoustic and fibre optic sensors for the continuous monitoring of pipes" (AGIFAMOR) investigates how pipeline systems can be continuously monitored for damage, such as cracks, fractures or deposits. Acoustic phenomena are measured using distributed acoustic and fibre optic sensors on undamaged pipelines as a reference. Comparative tests under static and dynamic pressure loads are carried out on damaged and undamaged pipelines, and the change in the sound pattern is analysed. The distributed acoustic and fibre optic sensors are expected to identify the various types of damage and thus to detect potentially dangerous changes to pipelines at an early stage using these changed sound images and reference measurements.
