This product presents an Augmented Reality system for the improvement of the packaging process. It represents a successful use case of how to integrate the Augmented Reality technology in a factory floor by providing a tool that helps operators in their daily work. More precisely, it allows to digitize the status of a die cutter automatically from an image captured by a camera using advanced Computer Vision techniques. Likewise, it allows to project directly on the machine the status that has been stored in the database using a projector and applying Projection Mapping techniques. Compared to the current way of working, where the data is recorded on sheets of paper and stored physically in warehouses, the proposed system offers several advantages such as preventing data loss, reducing costs, decreasing preparation time or the possibility of increasing knowledge from the post-processing of digitized data.
This is an industrial project result that has been partially funded by the Government of the Basque Country (Basque Industry 4.0 program) and has been developed in collaboration between the Igamo company and the Vicomtech research center. This project is already working in the factory of the Igamo company, i.e., it is being used in a real environment and generating tangible benefits.
