Additional designs complement CENTA's range of CENTAFLEX-KE couplings, further optimising also diesel-driven construction machinery with non-standard engine flywheels. The couplings with a performance range of up to 650 Nm feature high torsional stiffness combined with certain flexibility in radial direction. Diesel-driven hydrostatic machinery with flange mounted pumps has so far mostly been connected by torsionally stiff couplings. Excavators, vibratory rollers, loaders and many other machines and vehicles are equipped with these torsionally stiff couplings shifting dangerous resonances to speed ranges above operational speed. The advantage of the desired torsional stiffness however is outweighed by the associated radial stiffness. Relatively high reaction forces are encountered in case of radial misalignment which may damage the coupling as well as connected shafts and bearings. Although such drives are flange-mounted in order to reduce possible misalignment, minor radial misalignment (up to 0.5 mm) due to tolerances in machining, flexing of the crankshaft or wear of the crankshaft bearing cannot be excluded. In order to minimise negative forces, CENTA has developed a series to optimise Diesel-driven construction machinery. CENTAFLEX-KE with a torque range of up to 650 Nm excels by high torsional stiffness, yet provides sufficiently large radial flexibility. The design principle: The coupling disc consists of high-quality glass-fibre reinforced plastic with cylindrical chambers on the outer diameter. In these chambers steel bushes with pressed on rubber bushes made of temperature-resistant elastomer are arranged in such a way that certain play between rubber bush and coupling disc is possible. This play together with the elasticity of the rubber bush results in the necessary radial elasticity. The compound injected hub consists of the extremely high-quality special plastic CENTADUR.
