CITEC is the center of excellence funded by the excellence initiative by the German federal and state governments. The improvement of human-machine-interaction has been an important research topic in Bielefeld for several years - often including cooperation partners from the industry. The interdisciplinary profile of Bielefeld University offers the perfect conditions for this research area, which can also be seen in the participation of five faculties in CITEC.
In the center of excellence, 250 scientists strive to pave the road for technical systems that interact easily and naturally with humans while adapting to changing conditions. The goal are machines that adapt to the human way of communication rather than having the humans adapt their behaviour to the machines. Experts from computer science, psychologie, linguistics, biology, and sports science are working together on the four central topic areas: "Motion Intelligence", "Attentive Systems", "Situated Communication", "Memory and Learning".
