Product description

Phosphors are versatile due to their extraordinary properties. At Fraunhofer IKTS, ceramic phosphors are chemically optimized for LEDs, for example. Conventional LEDs have the disadvantage that the polymers yellow and as a result the luminous intensity decreases. With the IKTS phosphors, the light output can be significantly increased. If these ceramic materials are irradiated with a laser, a main beam can be generated that is at least 600 meters wide. In addition, the luminaries can be combined with the advantageous properties of translucent and transparent ceramics. This results in powerful and long-lasting, transparent optoceramics, which can be used, among other things, in medical X-ray detectors.

3D printing of complex ceramic parts

Complex ceramic components have been costly injection-molded or manufactured by isostatic pressing with high material losses so far. New additive manufacturing technologies are now opening up a completely new path for ceramics. Thus, these components can be produced without additional tools and with ...read more

We consult and develop customized coatings with enhanced wear resistance, conductivity or electrical insulation and anti-adhesive properties for ...read more

Ceramic membranes and combs

Ceramic membranes are considerably more stable and durable than polymer membranes and allow due to their excellent materials properties the use of high temperature and pressure. This enables an efficient operation and effective use of waste heat. Perowskite membranes are high-temperature membranes for ...read more

Porous ceramics

Besides the classical foam advantages like a large surface area with good storage efficiency and sound-absorbing properties, ceramic structures have a high-temperature resistance above 1000 °C, corrosion resistance and chemical inertness. Research focus is on the material-scientific further development ...read more
