HANNOVER MESSE 2018,
23 - 27 April
The Cologne region, or on a larger scale the Rhineland as a whole, has a wide-spread chemical industry, that has been producing large amounts of hydrogen as a by-product for decades. HyCologne has taken the leadership in an initiative to supply this hydrogen for ambitious trendsetting projects at attractive conditions.
This makes sense because in the future a sustainable safe & secure energy economy will rely on hydrogen as an efficient energy carrier. In combination with highly efficient fuel cell applications hydrogen offers excellent opportunities to fulfil global climate protection goals and decouple the world's energy supply from fossil sources of energy. Especially in the traffic and transport sector the framework has been set to reduce (CO2-) emissions by means of electrical drive concepts that will work much more efficiently in the conversion of energy input and power output than today. Hydrogen as an energy carrier will be a mainstay for the future-proof introduction of a nation-wide and cross-border infrastructure for electric mobility.
Hydrogen can be produced in various ways and easily be stored. In the near future the main focus will be on the production of hydrogen from renewable energy sources, but today already huge amounts of the valuable gas occur as a side-product in chemical production processes. German and international studies have shown that these hydrogen amounts could be made available for use in traffic & transport applications at short notice.
