With Human Centric Lighting (HCL), the lighting in buildings can be adapted to the run of the day of the sunlight. Light not only serves to execute tasks visually, but also affects our internal clock as well as our well-being. If the interior lighting matches the natural sunlight in terms of brightness and light colors, more mental power and concentration is provided.
The IoT-Bus is an IPv6-capable fieldbus with integrated security concept and ideally suited for lighting control for Human Centric Lighting. It combines the benefits of native internet protocol support with the benefits of a fieldbus in terms of range, reliability, ruggedness, low latency, and ease of installation. With the IoT-Bus, networks can be realized over a distance of up to 500 meters at a data rate of 1 Mbit/s. Furthermore, real-time communication is enabled by a special access method. Therefore, much more information can be transmitted than with well-known bus systems for lighting control.
In case of LED lamps, communication and energy supply of the lamps as well as the IoT-Bus nodes can be provided within one single cable. By using the IEEE 802.15.4 wireless protocol, a bridge between the wired and the wireless worlds is established. Therefore, additional sensors such as presence detectors or temperature sensors, but also light switches can communicate via radio or over the IoT-Bus itself. Also, further trades like blind or ventilation systems controls can be integrated. The point-to-point encryption option provides security against cyber attacks.
The IoT-Bus can take over the direct control of the bulbs in a building and thus implement a dynamic lighting design. Also applications for lighting control in horticulture as well as for illumination of buildings or for displays of goods are possible.
