Product description

Nitrogenous fertilizers and regional excesses of digestates and manure lead to an increasing nitrate pollution of groundwater in Germany, the EU and worldwide. An improved cross-regional distribution as potential solution is currently too expensive due to high water contents and increased transport and application requirements.

The newly developed SEQUESTA process solves the nitrate problem by treating nitrogenous waters and sludges with an innovative evaporation process. The system produces a highly marketable ammonia solution, a product that can be processed into NPK fertilizer and dischargeable water. In addition, the sludge volume is reduced by about 55 %.

In contrast to existing technologies, the SEQUESTA process recovers valuable nutrients in the form of marketable products. The concept is also characterised by a high level of environmental compatibility, since the addition of chemicals such as sulfuric acid is completely avoided. The substitution of industrially produced ammonia (e.g., chemical industry) further reduces national CO2 emissions.

In 2019, a prototype will be built in cooperation with agriKomp GmbH as an industrial partner by national funding, in order to bring the SEQUESTA process to the market.
