Industrial production is subject to the digital transformation - benefits result from intelligent algorithms for analysis of plant and process data. In our model factory, a laboratory-scale material handling line, we use flexibly configurable data communication to standardize large volumes of data and link them to a central cloud platform. On this technological basis, we explore methods for data driven training of interpretable models as a digital twin that gives us deep insights into both process and plant states. This provides us with a wide range of possibilities for analysis and process optimization - existing knowledge is increased and can be transferred to related problems. The developed procedures are applicable to other areas in which extensive data are available, e.g. logistics or entire value chains.
