Mechanical face seals are a special type of rotating mechanical seal. Thanks to their robust construction, they are ideal for challenging ultra highwear conditions. For example, they protect bearings at the wheels of chain drives in construction machinery or excavators against foreign particles such as sand and dirt.
Mechanical face seals consists of two identical metal slide rings and two O-rings. They achieve their dynamic sealing effect with high-precision overlapped front faces. The purpose of the O-rings is to provide static sealing and to centre the mechanical face seal in the fitting area. The O-rings also stop the seal from turning unwantedly with the shaft.
The mechanical face seals come in two different material versions. The first version is made of a high-strength roller and ball bearing steel and the second of a high-alloy corrosion-resistant casting material.
The O-rings are normally made of NBR, HNBR, FKM or VMQ. Other O-ring materials are possible on request in dependence on the application in question.
