Complex ceramic components have been costly injection-molded or manufactured by isostatic pressing with high material losses so far. New additive manufacturing technologies are now opening up a completely new path for ceramics. Thus, these components can be produced without additional tools and with very complex geometries, which could not yet be achieved with any other forming process. Fraunhofer IKTS has succeeded in producing complicated geometries made of long-term stable, temperature-, wear- and corrosion-resistant ceramics. This enables a quick and economic manufacturing of components for microreaction or instrumentation, medical technology or jewelery. The research is currently also focused on the development of multi-material components or the integration of additional electrical, sensory or fluidic functions, which can be used to create novel property combinations.
