About 17%* of major transformer failures can be traced to defectivebushings. At the same time, the requirement for availability and reliabilityof transformers used in networks is increasing. Continuous conditionmonitoring and evaluation of the bushings is therefore imperative. (*Cigre A2.37)MSENSE® BM enables early detection of bushing faults and thereforeallows action to be taken before the transformer is damaged. Changes in the condition of the insulation are detected early on by MSENSE® BM. An innovative and field-tested algorithm compares the changes in capacity and loss factor of the bushings with limit values. The special feature here is that the algorithm functions completely independently of temperature with respect to reference values upon initial commissioning. Only the measurement of voltage transformers on the system side is required as a three-phase reference system. This ensures a reliable and clear evaluation of the condition of the high-voltage bushings - regardless of network asymmetries or fluctuations in voltage. If the values of one phase deviate from the values of the other two phases, the user will be notified using a limit-value process.
