The pH-value is a logarithmic magnitude that quantifies the concentration of protons in a solution. This value is used to establish the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. Measurement and control of pH is vital for a large variety of processes like fermentations, cell culturing, dialysis, etc.
Innovative Sensor Technology IST AG has developed a solid-state half-cell pH electrode using thin- and thick-film technology on a ceramic substrate. Like conventional glass pH electrodes, it exhibits a Nernst-behavior (approx. 55 mV/pH), thus making it compatible with conventional measurements systems. Furthermore, the pH electrode features a temperature sensor (Pt 1000), enabling compensation. Due to its small size and relative low cost, this pH electrode is suitable for applications where space is a major constraint or for single-use systems.
