With the growing desire to become more independent from power suppliers, the topic of self-consumption gets ever more relevant. The profitability and economic viability increase further with the use of excess solar energy to produce hot water (tank with immersion heater or tankless electric water heater) and support heating systems (coupled with a heat pump) or with a battery storage system as a temporary buffer between production and consumption.
In average, a photovoltaic system in Germany produces annually around 800 to 900 kilowatt/ hour (kWh) of solar electricity per kilowatt peak (kWp) of installed power. For this, a roof surface of 7 to 10 m2 is required.
The exact solar yield depends on insolation, orientation and tilt of the module, shading, module type, inverter and on the quality of planning and installation.
