Besides the classical foam advantages like a large surface area with good storage efficiency and sound-absorbing properties, ceramic structures have a high-temperature resistance above 1000 °C, corrosion resistance and chemical inertness. Research focus is on the material-scientific further development of a variety of ceramic foam materials and manufacturing technologies. Additionally, the implementation into new applications such as porous burners, reformers, catalyst supports functionalized with adsorbents and catalysts, heating elements, bone replacement materials, solar receivers, lightweight materials, particle filters etc. have been realized up to now. The materials are beeing further developed and optimized under environmental and application-specific aspects.
